WYOMING - CODY STAMPEDE RODEO
July, Cody, WyomingSince the turn of the century, rodeos and parades have been part of the Fourth of July in Cody, Wyoming. For 90 plus years, starting officially in 1919, the Cody Stampede Rodeo has been held every summer; joined in the ‘20s by the annual “Cody Nite Rodeo” performances.

These two events establish Cody as not only one of the longest running successful professional rodeos, but also the only place in the country that has a rodeo performance nightly. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association named the Cody Stampede "Best Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year" in 1998 and 1999. In 2001 the Cody Nite Rodeo was nominated for "Best Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year". Night after night, the town proves that “Cody Is Rodeo”, all summer long! With the two distinct rodeos, the Cody Nite Rodeo every night from June through August, and the Cody Stampede July 1st through the 4th, the community continues to make its mark in the rodeo world.
The Rodeo:
The Cody Stampede Rodeo is one of nine stops on the Million Dollar Gold Tour Series insuring the top cowboys from across the continent come to Cody, WY for the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede Rodeo, one of rodeo's crown jewels that contestants often call "Cowboy Christmas". For top cowboy and cowgirl contestants, this is the place to win big purses and ride the best stock.
The Celebration:
Cody has become famous for its annual Cody Stampede Celebration, as these festivities bring thousands of visitors to Cody Country during the Fourth of July season.
One of the main attractions is the Stampede Parade, billed as one of the best of its kind in the region. Parade floats and entries are as varied as the interests of the people of this region. From the authentic costuming of horse club members to the refurbished steam tractors, from military equipment to marching bands, from floats to marauding mountain men, the fun goes on.
In addition to the rodeo and the parades, the town comes alive with a craft fair in City Park, musical performances by regional acts in outdoor venues throughout the town, and a 5k/10k run/walk dubbed the “Runners Stampede” that takes place the morning of the 4th. There’s also a fantastic fireworks display to end the celebration in style the night of the 4th.
