One of the five World Marathon Majors, and recognized by the IAAF (International Association of Athletes Federations) in their list of Marathon and Road Races ,and one of the Top 20 Massachusetts USA events and festivals here at Top Events USA, the world-renowned Boston Marathon is the world's biggest and oldest annual marathon that began in 1897 and now attracts crowds of up to 500,000 people. It also ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events. The 26 mile, 385 yard Boston Marathon has distinguished itself as the pinnacle event within the sport of road racing by virtue of its traditions, longevity and method of gaining entry into the race. To qualify to run the Boston Marathon, entrants must run a qualifying time at a certified marathon. Typically, more than 25,000 runners complete the race.

Now in its 42nd year and observed in 175 countries, Earth Day features a number of different events in various locations, from a party for the Planet at Franklin Park Zoo where the animals are celebrated, to the Boston Shines event where thousands of volunteers join together in good spirit to pick up tons of trash and debris, as well as the ever popular Picnic for the Planet event at the Nature Conservancy where hundreds meet to celebrate the earth and take part in what is considered to be the largest picnic in the world.

Boston Gay Pride
Famous as a large festival celebrating gay pride and attracting over 50,000 people each year – an event that has lasted for more than 43 years – the Boston Gay Pride Parade entertains a host of revelers enjoying a whole banquet of fun from food to politics.

Attracting about 50 teams from all over the USA, the Boston Dragon Boat Festival, the oldest dragon boat festival in North America, also features all sorts of Asian inspired events such as music, dance, drums, martial arts, songs, and the ever popular abundance of Asian food. Arts and crafts featured at the Boston Dragon Boat Festival include everything from learning how to fold and create Chinese origami items as well as how to decorate opera masks.

Boston Harborfest is a six-day Fourth of July Festival that showcases the colonial and maritime heritage of the cradle of the American Revolution: the historic City of Boston. Popular for almost 30 years, Harborfest is considered to be the largest patriotic celebration in the nation with visitors enjoying more than 200 activities during the Festival. Over 200 daily events are concentrated in Boston's historic downtown and waterfront districts, with sponsored Main Events on Boston's City Hall Plaza.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular
America’s premier Independence Day Celebration attracts close to 500,000 event-goers each year. Nationally popular, this Boston Pops concert and fireworks display takes places at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade, an outdoor concert venue next to the Charles River in downtown Boston. This is one of Boston’s most famous and popular events. The live performance by the Boston Pops Orchestra and appearances by special guests is televised nationwide. Attendees collect on the Oval, the lawns in front of the Hatch, or along the Charles River Esplanade, for the evening concert at 8:30pm which concludes with the fireworks at 10:30pm.

Barnstable County Fair
East Falmouth, Massachusetts
An annual summer tradition on Cape Cod for over 165 years, the annual Barnstable County Fair offers the best in wholesome family fun and entertainment. More than 85,000 visitors enjoy a variety of animal shows, 4-H demonstrations, petting zoos, horticulture displays, rides, games, live music, arts & crafts, food and commercial vendors with various arts and crafts for sale. Blacksmith demonstrations, agricultural exhibits, Rockwell Amusements Midway rides and games, and main stage entertainment complete the lineup.

Lowell Folk Fest
The largest free folk festival in the USA, with continuous music on six outdoor stages, takes place in July in downtown Lowell. A family friendly event, the Lowell Folk Festival has presented an international array of folk music, ethnic foods, craftspeople and artisans, as well as kid’s activities to enthusiastic New England audiences every summer for over 20 years. Lowell also hosts the Lowell Summer Music Series from the end of June to the beginning of September.

More than 137 years old, and drawing more than 180,000 visitors, the Marshfield Fair offers an exciting mix of entertainment for the whole family, from agricultural and horticultural displays, exhibits and demonstrations, to the family midway and music events. The Big E - Eastern States Exposition

Boston Brewery – Boston, Massachusetts

Annual Scallop Fest

Started over 45 years ago, the 3-day Scallop Festival has grown to attract more than 55,000 visitors each year and has been classed as one of The American Bus Association’s “Top 100 Events in North America” and has grown to be well known for its famous Scallop & Herb Roasted Chicken Dinners and many other offerings such as chowder, lobster rolls, hotdogs, and burgers, as well as a juried craft show, non-stop entertainment and a wide offering of various rides and games.

Working Waterfront Festival
New Bedford, Massachusetts
Taking place on the working piers and in the waterfront parks of New Bedford, recognized as the largest commercial fishing port of the USA, the free Working Waterfront Festival is an event celebrating the commercial fishing industry of the North Eastern USA complete with live maritime and ethnic music, fishermen's contests, fresh seafood and cooking demonstrations, tours of fishing vessels such as scallopers, engrossing Coast Guard rescue re-enactments, and a host of activities for the whole family.

America’s oldest agriculture fair, the Topsfield Fair began 196 years ago when a group of local farmers met to further the interests of the agricultural community of Essex County. Today the fair offers everything from livestock to Midway, opening parade and sand sculpture. Highlights of the fair include the opening parade, Giant Pumpkin Contest, Robinson’s Racing Pigs, the Bee Building and the Rabbit Barn.

Head of the Charles Regatta
The world's largest two-day rowing event, Head Of The Charles Regatta was first held in 1965. "Head" races, a class of regattas, are generally three-miles-long boat races the winners of which are awarded the honorary title of "Head Of The Charles."
Today, more than 7,500 athletes from around the world compete in 55 different race events. The Regatta now attracts up to 300,000 spectators during the late October weekend.

America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration is held at the birthplace of Thanksgiving, Plymouth, Massachusetts on the weekend before Thanksgiving to celebrate the history of the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA. Features of this popular event, now attracting more than 250,000 people each year, include concerts honoring military sacrifice and a parade, ranked the second best Thanksgiving parade after the Macy's Day Parade, that features elaborately decorated floats chronically celebrating the highlights of every century of America’s history, marching bands as well as drum and bugle corps.

Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
The Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is a tradition that began when Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada sent a Christmas tree to Boston in thanks for their help after the disaster of a ship collision at Halifax at the beginning of the last century. The Nova Scotia Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony begins when the Mayor of Boston, joined by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Santa Claus actually set the lights on, and this is then followed by a firework display. This is then followed by the lighting of Commonwealth Avenue Mall.

First night Boston is the largest New Year’s Eve event in North America. Celebrating the arts and showcasing Boston's cultural and artistic communities through over 250 exhibitions and performances by both local and internationally recognized artists, activities start at 1pm and run to midnight. Highlights of the festivities include the Boston Pops Symphony Hall concert broadcast live on video screens on City Hall Plaza, and the fireworks display over the harbor.
