Merrie Monarch Festival

One of the top 10 Hawaii USA Big Island events and festivals, the Merrie Monarch Festival is considered the world's premier forum for people of all ages to display their skills and knowledge of the art of ancient and modern hula. The week-long festival begins with Ho’olaulea (music festival) and continues all week with other festivities and the hula competition. The big Merrie Monarch Royal Parade through Hilo ends the festival.

King Kamehameha Day Celebration

Every year in early June, the unique King Kamehameha Day Celebration event on the Big Island attracts thousands of people to honor King Kamehameha I who united the Hawaiian islands in 1795. The festivities begin with the decorating ceremony and opening blessing of the statue of King Kamehameha, and are followed with a colorful and traditional pa'u parade with horses, riders and floats adorned in flowers and colors to represent each Hawaiian Island, and then a music festival in the park as well as opportunities for local food and traditional arts and crafts.

Parker Ranch Fourth of July Rodeo

Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament

Kona Coast – The Big Island, Hawaii

Top Fishing Tournaments in the USAAnother one of the main Hawaii Big Island Events, and a popular attraction for over 52 years, the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament, known as the “Grandfather of All Big Game Fishing Tournaments”, features teams of some of the best anglers in the world competing in the offshore waters of the Kona Coast of the Big Island baiting the prized Pacific blue marlin to win the Governor's trophy. The awards ceremony takes place the Saturday after the competition.

Queen Lili'uokalani Outrigger Canoe Race

The Queen Lili'uokalani Outrigger Canoe Race, the world’s largest long distance outrigger canoe racing event, features events with single and double hull canoes, and stand-up paddle boards. Set in Kailua-Kona on the coast of the Island of Hawaii, this event is the largest long-distance outrigger paddling challenge in the world that stretches 18 miles and attracts thousands of paddlers and contestants from around the world including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, and of course the USA. This popular event concludes with a traditional Hawaiian feast, an awards ceremony and plenty of entertainment.

Ironman World Championship

Kailua-Kona – The Big Island, Hawaii

The defining race in the sport for any triathlete, the Ironman World Championship features 1,800 of the top triathletes in one of the biggest challenges the sport has to offer. Highlights of the challenge include 2.4-miles of swimming, 112-miles of biking, and a 26.2-mile marathon run through tough ocean waves, and challenging lava-covered terrain. What makes this event so unique is that "average" people get to compete alongside the best in the world.

Moku O Keawe International Hula Festival

Waikoloa Beach Resort – The Big Island, Hawaii

One of Hawaii’s most distinctive hula events, the Moku O Keawe International Hula Festival attracts competitors from Hawaii, the USA, Japan, Mexico and other countries for three nights of exciting international hula competition. Also part of the event is an extensive Made-in-Hawaii Marketplace featuring everything from original Island of Hawaii vendors, a series of hands-on workshops in hula crafts, and an Hawaiian music concert with singing and dancing as well as a marketplace.
