The festival, which runs in mid-July in Beaufort, SC, has become a favorite summertime tradition with people all over the Low country and coastal Georgia. With so many activities, events, and entertainment the Water Festival appeals to people of all ages and stages.
The Annual Beaufort Water Festival began in July 1956 as a weekend celebration of the Sea Islands and has since grown into a ten-day festival with many sporting and water events taking place prior to the start of the Festival.
Festival highlights include: concerts each night, water and air shows on the weekends, a sailing regatta, grand parade, fireworks, arts & crafts market, children’s day, talent show, bed races, parade of boats, and blessing of the fleet just to name a few.
Sporting events include: a fishing tournament, softball, volleyball, horseshoes, badminton, bocce, croquet, and golf tournaments, as well as raft races and toad fishing. There are so many sporting and water events that the Festival created the Championship Sports Series three years ago so that teams could compete for the coveted title of Water Festival Champions.
The Beaufort Water Festival is an all-volunteer organization from the Commodore, who heads the Festival, to the many individuals and civic organizations that man the Festival. Over 400 volunteers give up countless hours to bring the Water festival to life and ensure that all festival goers have a positive experience.
Because of this volunteerism and the generosity of its loyal sponsors, the Water Festival is able to offer first class entertainment at very reasonable prices. This allows the festival to continue to be family oriented and brings people in from all over the southeast.
