NEW YORK OSWEGO HARBORFEST
July, Oswego, New YorkHarborfest is an annual 4-day admission-free non-profit event held every last full weekend of July in Oswego, New York, along the shores of southeastern Lake Ontario. Begun in 1988, Harborfest has evolved from a small community event to an enormously popular summer attraction for the City and County of Oswego.
Harborfest has seen its share of who’s who in musical entertainment over the years, from Kenny Chesney to Kansas to the Little River Band. In 2011 the main NRG Lakeview Stage headliner is Barenaked Ladies.
The centerpiece of the festival is the Saturday night Entergy Nuclear Fireworks Spectacular produced by Fireworks by Grucci that light up the skies over the Oswego Harbor. However, Harborfest is much more than just music and fireworks. The festival also features the Novelis Family Park with entertainment and programming for children of all ages, including the annual Children’s Musical. In addition, Harborfest features the popular Juried Arts and Crafts venue along the Oswego River and the Jazz & Blues Stage at East Park.
Thanks to the support of members and sponsors, Harborfest continues to be an admission-free event. The event annually brings in thousands of visitors to the Oswego area and the economic impact of the festival on the local economy is tremendous. Nearly 450 volunteers are needed to carry out Harborfest, along with the planning and organization of a board of directors and various Harborfest committees.
Harborfest has been named to the American Bus Association’s List of Top 100 events five times, was voted Central New York’s favorite festival and the Saturday Fireworks
