COEUR D'ALENE RESORT HOLIDAY LIGHT SHOW
November / December, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
More than a million lights sparkle across Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, as the Holiday Light Show comes to life each evening to herald the magic of Christmas..

It began as a few lights decorating the entrance to the The Coeur d’Alene’ Resort. Today it is the largest on-water Holiday Light Show in America. The Holiday Light Show gained national prominence when it was listed as one of AOL’s Top 11 American Lighting displays and featured on “Good Morning America”.
The best way to see the Holiday Light Show is the Journey to the North Pole Cruises which depart nightly. You board the ship at The Coeur d’ Alene Boardwalk Marina for a 40-minute, climate controlled Cruise to the North Pole. Greeting the children as they board for their trip are VIP celebrities, such as toy soldiers and Frosty the Snowman. While cruising, hot chocolate, cookies and rice krispies snacks are available for purchase. Arriving at the North Pole, Santa & Mrs. Clause emerge from their cabin to greet and visit with the passengers. During the greeting Santa pulls out his list and reviews all the children’s names that are aboard the Cruise. To see children’s eyes when Santa mentions their name is magical.
The passengers then sing Jingle Bells and the world’s tallest living Christmas tree comes to life. For the next 90 seconds the lights dance around the tree to the sounds of music. The shoreline comes alive with over 250 amazing displays, depicting the holidays, northwest lifestyle and childhood themes.
Signature Displays include the world’s tallest living animated Christmas tree at 162 feet and the Victorian village, complete with stained glass windows and more than 5,000 lights. The village is 30 feet tall and 125 feet long with a running creek, animated water wheel and two chimneys with animated smoke. The massive wreath that hangs on the Resort weighs 3,000 pounds. A 70 foot tree is decorated with 60,000 twinkling lights. The Holiday Light Show is connected by 5 miles of cable and 500 extension cords that are 5 feet each. Every year starting October 1, 15 resort employees spend over 8,000 man hours setting up the displays then taking them down as the season ends.
Other things to do while visiting Coeur d’ Alene for Christmas is enjoy the Gingerbread Village that features over 300 handcrafted gingerbread houses in The Shops; sleigh rides; hear the music of the Victorian Carolers; walk Sherman avenue to view the 20 blocks of decorations and window displays; follow the Mudgy & Millie trails from the local children’s book.
